World of Well-Being for All

The altruistic vision of ‘well-being for all’ has been an ideology that we have esteemed since the early days of human history:

• Two millennia ago, the early Christians wrote: “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace^[1] shall be with you.” Phil 4:9

[1] The original Greek text used for “peace” was Eirene (εἰρήνη) which meant:

• 1,800 years later, the well-being of all was still the brightest star on the sky of human desires. In 1892, Russian activist and philosopher Pyotr Alexeyevich Kropotkin wrote: “Well-being for all is not a dream.”
  
• At the beginning of 21st century, the idea of well-being of all was recognized as a desire of all of mankind. Dr. Catherine O’Brien, in her book Education for Sustainable Happiness, wrote: “Sustainable happiness is happiness that contributes to individual, community, or global well-being without the exploitation of other people, the environment, or future generations.”
  
• In the last two centuries, mankind has made enormous progress. For the first time in our history we have the know-how that can free us from scarcity, hunger, disease, ignorance, and servitude. We know how to feed everyone, clothe everyone, and how to give each human a chance at a decent life. These advancements have created the material foundation upon which we are capable of building a human organization which is defined by the well-being of us all. On the 25th of September, 2015, this led to mankind’s collective decision to turn the dream of well-being for all into reality. The Sustainable Development Goal #3 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was set in place to “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”
  
• This top decision has finally triggered the development of social models placing “well-being for all” on a practical foundation. In 2018, economic strategist Mark Anielski published a guide for building an economy based upon well-being for all entitled “An Economy of Well-being: Common Sense Tools for Building Genuine Wealth and Happiness.” Author Ivo Valkenburg commented: “A brilliant guide to creating a new economic paradigm based upon well-being for all living beings on planet earth. After reading this book, we cannot say that we didn’t know how to start creating a society of love.”

A key principle of a society of well-being for all is trusteeship. Each of us enters into the human organization as a trust of the whole, and bears a measure of responsibility for the welfare of all. An good analogy is the human body where 37.2 trillion cells collaborate to make human life possible. Their astounding diversity of form and function connects them through a process of giving and receiving. Despite self-interest being the driving force behind each cell, our human body thrives because the well-being of the whole organism holds top priority for all our antagonistic parts. The application of this principle of trusteeship to this human organization represents a new metric which defines the success of us all and our planet.

The world is longing for the restoration of goodness of life, brotherhood of man, and care for our planet. We are extremely privileged to be the ones who have the opportunity to help humanity make a major leap in its evolution by transforming our present world driven by an economy of war and armed coercion into a better world based on a culture of peace and well-being for all and our planet.
